Baby Specs!

A month or two ago, I noticed Baby Girl was squinting one eye when looking at close up objects, books, etc. I started watching her like a hawk, looking for the same eye turn that Belle has. When Belle was diagnosed with accommodative esotropia, we were told to watch our younger kids, as it tends to run in families. I watched Baby Girl so closely that I wasn't entirely sure if I actually was, indeed, seeing her eye turn in, or if I was just being that crazy, overprotective, "I'm seeing something that's not actually there" kind of mom, but nonetheless, I made an eye doctor appointment for her, convinced, if anything, that her squinting needed to be evaluated. Well, mere minutes into that eye exam, and it was confirmed that Baby Girl also had accommodative esotropia. You'd think that I'd be all knowing and full of the right questions to ask, being we've been down this road before, but yeah. No. Not until I got home did all the questions come.

Five Question Friday! 7/26/13

I am so blasted tired. It is 12:23am, after a busy couple of days of work, baseball, life and this mama is WIPED!! Good thing we've got a mellow weekend in front of us! (Aside from baseball...baseball, baseball, baseball. It's a good thing I love it...although, I'd be lying if I didn't say that by this time of the year, I get a little baseball weary.) I have freshly washed sheets tonight, thanks to my amazing 11 year old, but she used too much Downy fragrance thingamajigs and WHOO-WHEE!! Smells like a laundromat in here! *cough cough* *sneeze* *choke* Anyway, let's answer this week's questions! Welcome to Five Question Friday!! You've come to the right place if you discovered your muses are busy watching baseball playoffs.  Rules for 5QF:  Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them, then watch for the linky post to appear Friday morning and LINK UP!  Oh, and remember (pay close attention...this is the important one)...HAV

So, Kate's Havin' a Baby?

We all woke up to news this morning that Princess Kate was in labor...which makes me kinda excited! I know most Brits have a different attitude toward the Royal Family than we Americans do, but bottom line? It's a baby being born to (what seems to be) a wonderful couple...and THAT'S something to celebrate in and of itself! The mother in me feels so bad for Kate. I can't imagine what kind of security they have to have to protect this precious new life...but good golly. The fear. We all become protective of our children...but what if your child was a target because of your position in life? I'll take my quiet, "unprivileged", little corner of the world, thankyouverymuch. Honestly though? With the Kim Kardashians and "16 and Pregnant" girls representing pregnant American women...I'm kind of sad that Kate isn't ours. Her grace and beauty and the way she handled this pregnancy (quietly, modestly, in a strong, healthy relationship) is exemp

Five Question Friday! 7/19/13

Here I sit, at 11:05pm on Thursday night, writing my post for Friday morning, with the wimpiest fan I've ever encountered blowing on me. Seriously. It's like, if you stood across the room from someone and very gently blew in their direction...that's what this fan is like on the highest setting. And I was so excited about it! (I mean, it oscillates in a "figure 8" pattern, you guys!) Anyway...my weekend to work is coming up, which means I'll put in 24 hours in the hospital. But, as I've said before, if I have to be at work, I'm sure glad I get to welcome babies! Okay, let's get to the party! Welcome to Five Question Friday!! You've come to the right place if you discovered your muses are off getting their hair done.  Rules for 5QF:  Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them, then watch for the linky post to appear Friday morning and LINK UP!  Oh, and remember (pay close attention...this is the important

Just When I Think I'm So Smart.

Someone goes and beats me to the punch...or, I guess, strikes with a stronger punch? Remember this post ? The "ADCD" phrase that I thought I coined? Yeah, now I'm seeing it all over Facebook in a cutesy little cartoon photo. Fer dumb. And, remember this braid ? Yeah, thought I created this beautiful style...only to discover that a popular blog also claims to have created it. Fer double dumb. Then, there's the inadvertent, catchy titles I sometimes come up with...and then realize that some uber popular blogger titled one of her posts the same. Guess I file those away in my brain and then think, "Oh, I KNOW! I'll call this "Girls Room Redo"!!" and think I'm all smart and sassy and fun and then realize I must've actually tucked The Pioneer Woman's blog post into the recesses of my mind. I promise I'm not a thief. I'm just not as organically and originally cute as I thought I was. Not nearly as clever as I once bel

In the Kitchen with Gram...Sloppy Joes!

Curse you, Adam Sandler, and that damn "Lunch Lady" song!! To this day I cannot say "sloppy joe" without immediately singing, "sloppy joe, slop, sloppy joe". Gram is having company next week and in preparation of their arrival, she requested that we make sloppy joes. Here's something I've learned over the years...sloppy joes are as unique as chili. Everyone has their own method and their preferred taste! Gram's, however, are a homerun with everyone...super easy, with ingredients we all have on hand. (If you don't have ketchup on hand, we can no longer be friends. That's all.) Let's get cookin'! (Warning: This is NOT a precise recipe! This is definitely a "season to taste" recipe!) Brown your burger...take note of the butter in the bottom, a Gram standard! Add in onion: And minced garlic: Next up, chili powder: And, because the clump of brown sugar is impossible to differentiate from
