Ahhhhhh...It's Over.

This weekend. It's finally over! Hubby was gone on business all weekend (a first) and I had to work the 3-11 shift all weekend...which made for some piece mealing together of childcare...thank you to friends who pitched in and helped out!

But, here I sit. In my bed. Pooped as can be, awaiting my prince's return at some point tonight, and wishing I had NOTHING on my calendar for several days. Which is not the case.

However, right now. At this time. I have nothing to do but snuggle my girl, who just crawled in bed with me.

So, goodnight!

Five Question Friday! 9/28/12

Fer cryin' in the mud...I  tell you what. This "coping mechanism" of mine? The one in which, when I get stressed out, I just want to sleep? Yeah, it's sorta inconvenient.

It's like I'm a freakin' ostrich or something, and just wanna put my head in the sand until it's all over. Or, just cozy into a cave and sleep it away, like a bear in the winter. I wish I was one of those people who either 1. run for a stress reliever (running makes me more stressed out) or 2. cleaned like crazy when they get stressed. But no, Instead, I just want to pull the blankets over my head and sleep it away.

Anyway...enough gripin'! Let's get to the questions!

Welcome to Five Question Friday!! You've come to the right place if you want a fun, easy post or if you've suddenly discovered your muses are so stressed out they are sound asleep.

1. Do you prefer to drive to your vacation spot or fly?

2. If you could live any where in the world, where would you go and why?

3. Should grown women wear leggings?

4. If you could change your name to any other name, would you? And what would it be?

5. What magazines to you have subscriptions to?

---------------------------------------

1. Do you prefer to drive to your vacation spot or fly?
Drive. I really (really really really) don't like flying. Like, it's come to the point where I take a little sedative (aka "Valium") to get me through. You know, I don't really consider myself an anxious person, but good golly...put me on a plane and all my crazies come out.

Every little bump? "THE PLANE IS GOIN' DOWN!!!!!" Every little jostle? "LORD HAVE MERCY ON MY SOUL!!!"

It's white knuckles all the way up and all the way down. While I'm in the air? I'm decent. I wouldn't go so far as to say I "enjoy" it, but I can actually tuck the crazies away into the dark recesses of my mind...until descent.

When they come back in full force.

So, yes. Drive. Which makes those overseas trips a little inconvenient.

2. If you could live any where in the world, where would you go and why?

I've been dreaming, lately, of living in Colorado. Oodles of sunshine. Snow, but not too much, mountains galore.

Here, let me show you some links to the homes I'd like to purchase...hold please while I find them.

There's this humble dwelling, that my oldest is in love with.

Then there's this totally budget priced cozy little home.

Okay, so you know what's bad? I look at those multimillion dollar homes and scrunch up my nose and say, "Meh. I don't like those cupboards." A gazillion dollar home and it still isn't good enough for me.

My poor husband.

3. Should grown women wear leggings?

I say yes. If you can pull it off, do it! Of course, this is coming from a grown woman who owns leggings but still feels slightly less than confident in them.

It's like the thought I had the other day when I say a grown woman sporting what looked like was supposed to be a trendy high side ponytail. I was all (in my head, of course) "Lady. If you were old enough to sport that trend the first time around, you're too old for it now."

And yet, I'm still planning on wearing my leggings again.

How hypocritical is that?!

Hey. At least I don't wear high side ponies or, even worse, pig tails.

4. If you could change your name to any other name, would you? And what would it be?

Eustace.

No, maybe Olga.

Okay, kidding. Yes, I would change my name. But to what? I'm not sure. Something that stands the test of time...like "Maria" or "Charlotte" or maybe "Cecilia".

5. What magazines to you have subscriptions to?

Once upon a time I was a People magazine junky and had a subscription. Then, there were too many stories about real people when all I wanted was the celebrity dish and it turned out that I didn't really care about those everyday people that lost a 100 pounds. I mean, I'm proud of them and all but what I really wanted was to find out things like, "Why did Brad and Jennifer get divorced?" and "What on earth possessed Gwenyth to name her baby Apple?".

So, I cancelled it and now only buy it when there are headlines like, "Prince Harry Photographed Naked!" and "Kate and Will...Scandal in the Palace".

Okay, not real titles, but totally the things that draw me in.

I do have a mystery subscription though. InStyle magazine began showing up in my mailbox a few months ago. You know what magazines like that do to me? They make me drool all over their pages at the hot new styles and then weep, because I'll never be able to pull off those hipster looks without it looking like, "Oh, hey. There's mama. Looks like she's trying out a hipster new look."

Yeah, it just doesn't come natural to me. I'm more of yoga pants and t-shirt kinda girl and when I wear anything but that, people say, "Oh. Where are you going?" And I'm all, "So?! I can wear this cute sweater to the store just like all the other moms!"

Or not. I really do like to dress nice when I go out...but if I'm home alone or schlepping around after kids? Yoga pants it is. Express yoga pants, preferably. Now...I just need some cute long shirts to wear with them...any suggestions?

------------------------------------------

And now, my weekend of work begins! Wish me luck.

Thursday Night 5QF Sneak Peek!

Look!! It's before 10 o'clock and I'm getting the sneak peek up! Yay me!

I'm looking ahead at a crazy busy weekend and kind of having a small pity party. You feel bad for me, right? I thought so.

Anyway, before I get distracted from this post, let's get to the questions this week!

Welcome to Five Question Friday!! You've come to the right place if you want a fun, easy post or if you've suddenly discovered your muses had a busy day and can't be bothered.

Rules for 5QF: Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them, then watch for the linky post to appear Friday morning and LINK UP!

Petri Dish

It was inevitable, right? With kids being steeped in the proverbial "petri dish" combination of oodles of kids in the close confines of school hallways and classrooms, that eventually, one of my kids was bound to get sick?

Right?

Exactly...and so, today, I have my Belle home with me and Baby Girl. She's been battling a sore throat, woke up today with a headache that progressed to barfiness.

I think the throwing up may have been related to an ibuprofen in an empty tummy...but, school policy says no attendance within 24 hours of puking. So, low and behold, she actually feels much better and BONUS!! I get an extra day with her!

We're watching a screening of a new movie (cute!) and still snuggled in bed in our jammies. Kind of a perfect day, in my opinion!

In the Kitchen with Gram...Angels and Berries!

Mmmmmmmm...I love me some angel food cake! This dessert is incredibly delicious and HOLY MOLY is it easy.

Be prepared to be amazed.

You'll need:

In addition to the berries (don't tell them, but we forgot to put them in the first photo...so we gave them their own separate photo, heaven forbid should they be left out.):

You'll need half an angel food cake. I suppose if you were more ambitious than we, you could crack open an angel food cake mix and actually bake the sucker yourself. And if, perhaps, you make your own angel food cake? Well, I don't want to speak to you. OVERACHIEVER.

Boil yourself some water.

Then, pretend like you're making jello, and pour some into the water, stir and stir and stir until it's all dissolved.

Now, here's the tricky part. You know how you add ice/cold water to jello? Well...we're gonna sub that part for some good ol' frozen berries. (I know my Gram is just DYING that we're using Good Value berries, aren't you, Gram? Unfortunately for us, it's all The WalMarts here in town carries. CONSPIRACY.)

Also, a dash of salt. Now, I don't know if the original recipe actually called for this, but my Gram always (that I've seen, anyway) adds a dash of salt to her sweet things and a bit of sugar to her savory things. Do as Gram does and you will be happy. The end. (Put your berry/jello mixture in the fridge at this point to expedite the "setting up" process.)

Rip 1/2 that cake into bite sized pieces and put it into a trifle or 9/13 pan. (Confession...after doing this, I'm not sure I see the purpose in the whole layering bit. It all gloms together in the end anyway...but I didn't tell you that. Layer away. Or, you know, not.)

Now, grab your berries, (*snicker*), which should be nice and thick and sorta set up...

And your Cool Whip...

And gently fold them together. Don't mix it too rough or for too long or your berries and/or Cool Whip might start to break down and get soupy. Bad news.

Now, here's that pesky (and by pesky I mean, "probably not necessary") layering business. Cake, 1/2 of berry/Cool Whip mixture, cake, remaining berry/Cool Whip mixture. (Or, you know, cake, berry/Cool Whip smoosh it together and call it good.)

Gah-geous.

Deeeeeeeeee-licious!

And not too bad too look at, either!

Gram's Angels and Berries
Printable Recipe

1/2 Angel food cake, torn into bite sized pieces
1 pkg (small pkg) raspberry jello
1 1/4 cup boiling water
1 12oz pkg frozen raspberries
1 c Cool Whip

Pour jello into boiling water and stir until completely dissolved. Add in berries and salt, place in fridge to set up slightly. Place 1/2 of cake pieces in trifle or 9x13 pan. When berry mixture has thickened an begun to set up, gently fold in Cool Whip to berries until just combined. Pour 1/2 berry mixture over cake in pan/trifle, spread slightly to ensure adequate coverage of cake, then add remaining cake and pour remaining berry mixture over, spreading and "squooshing" again. Chill until firm, serve with a dollop of Cool Whip, or as is!

Enjoy!

Funk.

In. A. Funk.

Must. Get. Out.

Please. Send. Help. (Preferably chocolate, shoes, or the latest and greatest gadget.)

G'night! Hopefully this funk will wear off by morning...if not? Well, there's always teaching "Theology of the Body" to a group of 15 year olds to look forward to tomorrow night. :-/

Nevermind.

Monday Mumblings

What a weekend! Party Friday, party Saturday, party Sunday...*yawn*...I'm pooped!

I "co-hosted" a shower for my SIL and soon to be arriving nephew Saturday and people? The baby stuff? I want another baby because OMG the baby gear has improved since my baby was a baby!

Let me show you...

Have you seen this?

Or these?

I die. The baby stuff makes me want another...I mean, look how comfy that little bed is! And that snuggle pod? No wrapping, to pulling, no velcro, just ziiiiiiip!! and snug as a bug, that baby is all swaddled.

There are geniuses in this world, people, and I am (unfortunately) not one of them.

Next on agenda: Invent latest and greatest baby gadget/gear/must have and retire to the mountains.

Or something.

And then, last night we had Belle's birthday party and as is tradition, she received a VERY special gift from my parents...

Friends, SHE'S GOIN' TO DISNEY WORLD!!!!!! (And I get to go too!! Just have to pay for plane tickets and amusement park tickets!)

As is typical of this girl, she's equal parts incredibly excited and very nervous.

She keeps asking "Is the plane ride scary?" and as a "flying hater" I feel like a liar when I tell her, "Oh, not at all." and then begin planning which sedative I plan on taking for the flight.

Poor girl...hopefully she will just sit back and enjoy and not be too anxious. Unfortunately, I won't be the one to be reassuring her..."WE'RE ALL GONNA DIE!!!!!!!"

Just kidding...I get very zen when I fly. I go all internal and begin to have a very long dialogue with God. Something like, "God? It's me. You know, I really don't want to die today...my kids and husband need me and feel like I have a lot of life left to live. Graduations, weddings, grandbabies...that whole thing. Could you please carry this plane through the air and land us safely in Florida?"

Once that plane starts to rocket down the run way, my conversation with God stops mid sentence and begin a non ending stream of Our Fathers and Hail Marys and so help me, DO NOT talk to me, because I won't answer you. I'm too busy begging God to not let it be my last day.

Add my daughter to the flight? I'm either gonna hafta be drunk, stoned, or sedated...probably best if I'm all three. Classy, for that 7:30am flight. ;) (Kidding...a little Ativan should do me just fine. I hope.)

And now, I'm off to go cook with Gram! A fun little dessert for y'all! See you tomorrow!

Oh, wait...first, look what I made for my girl (per her request) yesterday!!

Proud.

Five Question Friday! 9/21/12

Facing a busy weekend...and then, hopefully life gets back to its boring, leisurely pace! Today is a party at my BIL's, Saturday a shower for my lovely SIL and future nephew, and
Sunday is Belle's birthday party!

Phew. Makes me tired just thinking of it!

Anyway, I wanna get to bed (it's currently 1:03 am), so no more small talk! Just the answers...

Welcome to Five Question Friday!! You've come to the right place if you want a fun, easy post or if you've suddenly discovered your muses had a busy day and can't be bothered.

1. What is one grammar issue you cannot let go without correction?

2. What's your favorite thing about fall?

3. What's your favourite dish to take to a potluck?

4. When do you start Christmas (Holiday) shopping?

5. Did you move homes a lot growing up?

----------------------------------------

1. What is one grammar issue you cannot let go without correction?

Grammar is one thing that can really annoy me. My grandma and my mom have really good grammar (wait, is "good grammar" good grammar?) and it rubbed off on me.

Speaking as well as written...for example, the your/you're debacle that so many people can't seem to understand? Note to you: your = possession as in "it is your thing", you're = you are as in "you are not using 'you're' properly if you're talking about your thing". They are not interchangeable.

My oldest child is fabulous with this...my younger ones? Not so much...not sure if they haven't gotten to that point in school yet or what, but it better be soon...MAMA'S GOIN' CRAZY!

Belle has started reading more, so I'm hoping that this helps her with it!

Another one is "don't" like "Don't that look good?" ARRRRGGGGHHHHHH!!!!! No..."DOESN'T that look good" makes me wanna claw my eyes out. Or, my ears, I guess.

2. What's your favorite thing about fall?

Cool weather...warm, hearty, stick to your ribs meals.

I can't wait to start cooking more! It's finally been cool out and I've been too busy to cook. Boo.

At least I've got my Gram to cook with...but she does most of the work and I just stand there and take pictures. Fair trade, I guess. ;)

3. What's your favourite dish to take to a potluck?

Whatever is the easiest thing I can think of? Is that a good answer?

Is it bad that I find it very hard to put much effort into a potluck?

A good fall back for me is Oriental Salad...coleslaw, ramen noodles, sunflower seeds, dressing.

Voila. Tasty, easy, portable. Done and done.

4. When do you start Christmas (Holiday) shopping?

Well, technically not until after Halloween...but this year? I've already got one present purchased! I'm so proud of myself!

I'm becoming a Zuilily and Groupon addict. I see a lot of gadget-y presents arriving this year. It's fun to get great stuff for an awesome price!

Bring it.

5. Did you move homes a lot growing up?

Not at all.

I lived in one house until I was 12, lived in that house until college, and then home every weekend.

I've moved more as an adult than I did as a kid. After college I rented a tiny little 2 bedroom house for a year, then bought my first home, hubs moved in when we got married, sold that and bought the home we currently live in...which we are prepping to get on the market at some point in the nearish future.

I've realized that at some point, it becomes easier to move than to deep clean your whole house. Like, just empty the sucker out and move into something else.

I'm totally at that point right now.

8 years worth of crap...I just want to pick it up and move on. Also, moving forces me to purge. I hang onto stuff that I'd never ever want to move with, so when I move, I toss. Maybe I just need to pretend like I'm moving to get organized?

Hmmmm...now there's a thought. ;)

----------------------------------

Annnnnnnnd, goodnight! (Well, good morning for you, since this won't publish until morning!)
