Busy, busy, busy!!

Oh, my! Today's busyness is going to rival none other! First, E. Dub has a dental appointment to get an abscessed tooth removed (oh fun), then I have some education at work prior to my working an evening shift tonight! My mom is coming with to help me get kids from point A to point B, then to point C or D.

Moms rock.

The blog posts that I have running rampant in my head are threatening to keep me up at night! Fun stuff, serious stuff, interesting stuff, photos galore, reviews (and giveaways!), BlogHer posts...it's crazy! And, actually, I think it will, indeed, keep me up tonight, when I get home from work!

But for now, I hope you all had a wonderful and safe Memorial Day Weekend (unless you don't live in the States, in which case, I hope you had a wonderful and safe non-holiday weekend!) and, I'll leave you with this:

Adios, have a great day!

Real Time...

In real time (unless, you know, you are reading this at 9:13 am, then it's not real anymore...) :)

I'm sitting here, in my bed, having just watched "Salt" (which I scratched my head and said "I'm confused" throughout most of), and anticipating the Memorial Day holiday tomorrow.

I'm not sure how many times I've said it here before, but I am SO grateful for our military, past and present, and their families. The sacrifices you ALL make (made) for us, for our freedom, for our ability to live the American Dream is so incredible, that I find myself at a loss for words to express my gratitude...

So, I will just say, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. And God Bless you.

In further "real time" news, I'm tired, fighting off the plague that is causing the younger two of my children to bark like seals, and worrying about the forecast. With all the horrific storms in Missouri and, what feels like, the rest of America, when I see a forecast that predicts storms that "may be severe", it puts me on edge.

My husband is snoring. Sleeping like a little baby (well, a little snoring baby) right beside me. I'm looking at him, amazed by how much I still really like the guy, all these years later! ;)

I'm worrying about a talk that I need to have with two of my kids tomorrow...seems as if the three letter "s" word has been being tossed around a bit by them. This is the part of parenting that I don't enjoy so much. The fact that my kids, who, at 7 and 9, aren't necessarily ready, in MY mind, to learn about some aspects of human nature, hear things away from home that necessitate conversations like I'm about to have.

Wish me luck on that one.

And with that, I bid you goodnight.

Five Question Friday! 5/27/11

Warning...this may get goofy. Or, it may get extremely boring and mundane. I'm tired. It's late and my nose is stuffy.

I have no idea what that has to do with anything, but there it is.

In other news, I bought some bug repellent today. Again, I have no idea what that has to do with the price of rice in China. But there it is.

What IS the price of rice in China, anyway?

Okay, before I totally run out of steam and fall asleep, drooling on my keyboard, let's get this 5QF party started!

If you are new to Five Question Friday, WELCOME! I hope you enjoy yourself!

Rules for Five Question Friday (strictly enforced with a wet noodle): Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them, then watch for the linky to appear on Friday morning and LINK UP! Most of all, remember to...HAVE FUN!!

Questions for Friday, May 27th: (Special thanks to @msargirl, Christine, Kim, Pam, andMelis for their question suggestions! I would LOVE to link you in a future 5QF, just c'mon over to my community and offer up your best question suggestions! Also, watch for my weekly Twitter "shout out" for questions! Just use hashtag #5QF and @5crookedhalos me!)

1. Do you apologize to your kids?

2. What color are your nails right now?

3. When you were growing up, how difficult was it for you to stay home from school sick? (As in, did you have to vomit or just say "I don't feel good".)

4. When is the last time you bought a new comforter for your bed?

5. Favorite website(s)?

--------------------------------------

1. Do you apologize to your kids?

I do! If it is deserved, then yes, I do.

And, some days, I find myself apologizing a lot more than others, you know? Those are usually the days that I'd like to rip my "Mom" name tag off and trade it in for one that says, "FAIL", 'cuz usually I'm an irritable, cranky, sorry excuse for a mom at those times.

2. What color are your nails right now?

Skin.

Nope, not some new, fancy, schmancy Essie or O.P.I color, just plain ol' skin colored.

See, I have this job thing? You know, wherein I report to work and help women become mamas? Yeah, that one.

Well, I can't wear polish to work. Au natural is the only way. But you know what? I'm totally okay with that.

I can hardly keep up with the polish on my toes, and at least I can cover those up! My fingers? Not so much.

3. When you were growing up, how difficult was it for you to stay home from school sick? (As in, did you have to vomit or just say "I don't feel good".)

My mama was pretty cool. I usually never had to feign illness, 'cuz just when it got to be about the time that I needed to have a day off, she'd let me have a mental health day.

Only, it was before "mental health days"...back when I'd just call her and be all, "But, mo-om, it's SO nice outside!" And she'd be all, "Okay, I'll pick you up but you have to help me wash windows." And I'd be all, "Fo shiz!!" Only, it was also before the "fo shiz" days, so really I was more like, "Totally tubular, dude! That's, like, AWE-some! You're like SO cool mom, now if only I could get you to tight roll your pants..."

And then she'd be all, "huh?"

4. When is the last time you bought a new comforter for your bed?

Hmmmm...a year or 5 ago. I'm not really sure.

I remember buying it. But, I can NOT remember when. Usually, I judge "when" by which child I was pregnant with, but I can't even recall that.

Which isn't surprising when I have things like, "I wonder how they get Dippin' Dots to stay separated?" and "Why did God invent mosquitos?" and "Why do Doritos taste so ridiculously delicious?" running through my head.

5. Favorite website(s)?

Well, I just recently "discovered" (and by "discovered" I totally mean that in a Christopher Columbus "I saw it first, but really, there was an entire population that discovered it before me" way) damnyouautocorrect.com.

I'm only disappointed that some of the submissions are so hilariously inappropriate, 'cuz I'd LOVE to show some of them to my son!

Seriously, laugh out loud, tears running down my face funny. I'll show you a couple of my (not inappropriate) favorites: This one. And this one.

Hee hee!!
------------------------------------------

And, with that, I'm outtie! Have a fabulous holiday weekend, my friends! And, drive safe...

Thursday Night 5QF Sneak Peek!!

Memorial Day weekend...the "unofficial" start of summer! Woo hoo!!

Any big plans this weekend? None set in stone here, but a whole lotta prospects, dinners, mall trips, an inaugural summer launch on the boat (my kids are already asking if they can swim...love and logic moment or just a plain old "NO! It's too cold!!", for this one?!)!

Let's get this party rollin'!

Reminder that this post is "just" the "sneak peek" post! The real post (with linky) will be up tomorrow morning!

Why kids aren't allowed to gamble.

So, the other day, it dawned on me why people have to be 18 to gamble.

It's got nothin' to do with maturity...here, lemme show you:

50/50 odds and 99% of the time they get it wrong.

Note to Self.

Yo, Self, listen up.

Effective immediately, I am putting a ban on all this munching, snacking, seconds, eatingwhateveryouwant business. Your love handles are begging me.

Your saddle bags are pleading with me to do something about you and your stuffing your pie hole problem.

I am taking a drill sergeant approach and there will be NO MORE LATE NIGHT SNACKING! NO MORE "JUST A COUPLE" OF DORITOS! ("A couple", yeah right...) NO MORE FAT FOOD! (Yes, I said "Fat"...as in "fat faSt food".)

HUP TO IT! GET OFF THE COUCH! LACE UP THOSE SNEAKERS!

(Pssssst...if this hardass approach doesn't work, maybe fear tactics will: Swimsuit season is right around the corner, dear Love Handles...I mean, dear Saddlebags...I mean, dear Mama. Muwahahaha! Yer shakin' in yer boots now, aren'tcha?!)

All my love,
You know who

Wonderment...

Sometimes, I look at my kids and I think "Oh my Lord. How am I going to survive the day?" (Those are usually the days in which one child or another are prone to picking, pinching, kicking, teasing, tormenting, beating, etc. on one sibling or another...)

But most days, I look at these kiddos and am awestruck.

Totally amazed.

Completely, utterly, helplessly in love.

I stare at them and I wonder how I got to be the lucky one to have them in my life.

Just last night, I sat and stared at my Baby Girl, who had fallen asleep on the way home from her biggest brother's baseball game.

Her perfect lips, her tiny nose, the way her eyelashes lay so quiet and still...I wanted to inhale that moment and have that memory forever imprinted on my brain.

For I know, that no matter how tired and exhausted I am at the end of the day...there will come a time when I will miss these days, these moments, and all the chaos in between.

Well, okay...maybe not the chaos. ;)

I love this...

Gramps and Baby Girl...

Melt my heart.

Weekend ReCap...

Well, this weekend was about as busy a weekend as we've had in a while! We're kinda homebodies, so we don't get out much, but this weekend we did!

Our local Boy's and Girl's Club held a fundraiser on Friday night...we attended it last year and had a BLAST, and this year was no exception (tho' a bit more mellow...)! Lot's of dancing, sampling food from local restaurants, wine tasting, and some boogyin'!

Good times with the in-laws...

Yeah, I did drag the Mr. out on the dance floor a few times...I dunno what it is, but you get a few Mike's Lemonades in me, and I feel the need to serenade him songs like "Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not" while slow dancing. Poor guy.

Once, upon returning to our table from the dance floor, our fellow tablemates got real quiet. I thought it was a little strange, but a few more drinks for my BIL, and he was singin' like a canary! "*hee hee* Did you see any pictures on your camera?! *hee hee*"

So, I flipped through a few and WHOA!!

Barenaked BIL butt. Ewwwwwww. So, of course, I HAD to put it on my blog. Well, kinda:

:)

Then, Saturday, E.W celebrated his half birthday.

No, we don't make it a habit of celebrating half birthdays, but we DO let them start having kid parties in 1st grade, and since his birthday falls at a crazy, busy time of the year, we missed the opportunity to have his party around his actual birthday, and so I promised him a 1/2 Birthday Party.

What was I thinking? Ugh. Boys are crazy when they get together. And I thought Belle's pool party was bad?! GAH! That was a cake walk compared to these little hooligans!

After the party, we got to work on something I've been thinking about doing for awhile...and while we were at aforementioned fundraiser, we asked if we could buy something.

Something a little strange, and we got funny looks...but, well, we asked if we could buy some of the decorations. (Weird, I know.) Yeah, we asked if we could have the straw bales that they used for decorations and so, on Saturday, we picked up the 10 bales waiting for us and are going to try our hand at straw bale gardening this year!

Wish us luck. My hubby is an agronomist, and so is dreaming up all sorts of concoctions with which to fertilize our bales. (I'm kind of afraid they're going to disintegrate with what he's telling me he's going to put on them!)

Rest assured, I'll keep you posted on how our garden grows!

Then, the pinnacle of the weekend, was our girl's very first piano recital! Which deserves a post all it's own!!

Why I love being a mother.

It's being able to have conversations like this:

Hambone: "Mama? How come dragons like to eat fish?"

Me: "Because they're fishatarians."

Hambone: "Ooooooh, okay!"

And totally be taken seriously.

Motherhood: It's all about makin' stuff up.

Five Question Friday! 5/20/11

I'm wondering what happened to May? Last I knew I mistakenly thought April 5th was Cinco de Mayo, and now here I am, nearly June, and I seem to have misplaced my May.

If anyone sees my May laying around, could you please send it home? Only make sure it keeps it's rain and 30 degree weather. I only want my May back if it brings 70's with it.

Alright...any big plans this weekend? The Mr. and I are headed to a benefit for our local chapter of the Boys and Girls Club. Last year it was a rollicking good time, and I'm in need of a rollicking good time, so let's hope it's a repeat of last year's!

Welcome to Five Question Friday! Let's get this party started!

Rules for Five Question Friday: Copy and paste the following questions to your blog post, answer them, then watch for the linky to appear on Friday morning and LINK UP! Oh, andhaving fun is a MUST!

Questions for Friday, May 19th: (Special thanks to @joleneslavik, @ThisDaddys_Blog,@deannajw, Christine, and Sandy for their question suggestions! I would love to link YOU in a future 5QF, so just c'mon over to my community to offer up your best question suggestions, or just watch for my Twitter shout out for questions and @5crookedhalos me using hashtag #5QF!)

1. Do you and your spouse go to bed at the same time?

2. A question for the ladies...What kind of facial hair do you like on your man?

3. What's the worst vacation you've ever taken?

4. What's the first-ever blog you followed?

5. Do you enjoy amusement parks?

-------------------------------------------------

1. Do you and your spouse go to bed at the same time?

When we're both home, typically yes, we do. However, there are glaring differences in when we actually fall asleep.

My husband is the "deep in REM sleep as soon as his head hits the pillow" type. I'm more of the lightly drifting off to slee...WAIT! what was that sound???? You know, more of the take my time to fall into a dee...OHMIGOSH!! I totally forgot we need milk and what will the kids eat in the morning?! Okay, um...I'm the one who takes a wee bit longer to set...OH DEAR! I need to sign the kids up for summer activities in the morning!!

Yeah, you get the drift. Takes me a while. Him, not so much.

2. A question for the ladies...What kind of facial hair do you like on your man?

Oooh, this is a tough one.

I loooooove!!! The look of a 5 o'clock shadow on my man, or the once in a lifetime goatee he sported after an extended camping trip left him more than a little scruffy and he shaved his scruff into a dashing goat. Mmmmmm, hmmmm!! LOVED the look of that!

BUT. Kissing it? Meh, not so much. It hurts! It's scratchy and prickly and itchy and makes my face all red.

So, for looking: Scruff. For kissing: Smooth as a baby's butt, please!

3. What's the worst vacation you've ever taken?

Hmmmm...can a vacation ever really be bad?

There was this one time...(say it with me, "at band camp") when we were but a wee family of four. We decided to be brave little souls, and take our adorably perfect family of mom, dad, boy, girl, camping.

Now, being the wise, young woman I was, I knew that a WHOLE camping trip was asking too much, so I booked us a few days at the end of the trip to stay in the comfy confines of a nice little hotel in Duluth, MN...one of our favorite spots in the whole world!

Turns out, when you have a not quite one year old who doesn't yet sleep through the night and a weather forcast that includes lots and lots and lots and, oh did I mention, LOTS of rain, that camping really isn't that much fun.

In fact, I think I'd rather strip wall paper while wearing a thong and listening to the Carpenter's sing "Merry Christmas Darling" than live through that again. *shudder* Yes, it WAS that bad.

Turns out my brilliance with the hotel paid off in spades, tho...because, as it turns out, I equate the success of that vacation based on those last few days in Duluth, which were incredibly fun and filled with wonderful memories (which cloud the bad memories of those preceeding few days...)!

4. What's the first-ever blog you followed?

The very first time I had ever heard about a "blog" was when I read a story in a local paper about a set of 24 week twins.

Their mama has such a gift for writing, and they are so darn cute, that I was hooked! Then that blog led to another blog, which mentioned a certain little boy with a heart condition, which is where I learned about a certain rancher's wife with a gift for cooking and photography, which is where I now check in first thing daily.

The end.

5. Do you enjoy amusement parks?

I LOVE amusement parks!

Back when I was younger, I used to love them even more, but as I've "aged" I've developed motion sickness, which really, really, really sucks when you enjoy rides! I can still do the roller coasters...but anything "spinny", fugheddaboudit. *barf*

Now I love them more for the fun I see my kids having. Every year we go to "ValleyFair", our state's (much, much smaller, less fancy) Six Flags! It's always a good time and is talked about all year long. My grandpa STILL goes on the big rollercoasters, and he'll be 81 this year!

He and my gram are the ones that started this tradition...and man, oh man, am I glad they did! This will be one we will carry on for a long, long time!!

--------------------------------------------

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!
